Family Medicine Residency Program

 Larkin Community Hospital - Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year training program that adheres to the Program and Institutional Requirements for Family Medicine.
The program is structured in block rotations using 13 four week units/year. Furthermore, longitudinal experiences are provided in different areas through the three years of training.

Rotations location: Larkin Community Hospital
Participating sites:
   • Family Medicine Center- Borinquen Health Center, CMA Clinic (Provider at Coral Way).
   • Pediatric rotations at our affiliated Children's Hospitals
 
   • OB/GYN rotations at Hialeah Hospital Maternity Care Unit.
   • Nursing Home visits, Home Visits, Doctor's Office Visits.
These settings, collectively, offer the residents the following experiences:

• Comprehensive-continuous care of high quality for people of both sexes and all age groups.
• Behavioral sciences and psychosocial aspects of disease.
• Maternity care – Women Health.
• Care of neonates, infants, children and adolescents.
• Community oriented primary care. Health promotion and disease prevention
• Nursing Home and Home bound care.
• Emergency care, critical care, surgical care, and other required block rotations.
• Health systems management (practice management)

Our Family Practice Residency Program is designed to provide the physician with advanced and concentrated training in the specialty of family practice. The program is committed to supply the needs of the medical school graduate desiring to be certified in Family Medicine.

Disease prevention is the cornerstone of osteopathic family practice and shall be given major emphasis throughout our curriculum. 

The program will offer
the family practice resident with properly organized training, in both cognitive and procedural domains that will provide progressive primary responsibility for patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting within the context of a family environment. This shall occur through continuity of didactic and clinical experiences. Upon the successful completion of a residency in family practice, the physician will be prepared to provide comprehensive health care to diverse populations.

Residency Highlights


Individuals who choose the Osteopathic Family Medicine Program are expected to complete satisfactorily their family medicine training at our institution. By doing so, eligibility for the American College of Osteopathic Family Practice (ACOFP) certification can be achieved in three years.
Graduates of the three-year Family Medicine Residency Program will be able to manage a wide variety of health care needs for the individual and the family in the context of the community, including acute care, preventive care and chronic disease states. Residents will be trained in treating patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.
