Osteopathic Family Practice Residency Program (AOA accredited)

The Osteopathic Family Practice Residency Program started on July 1st, 2010. This is a 3-year residency program approved for 6 positions per academic year. The application process is through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants will be selected via the National Matching Service (www.natmatch.com). Osteopathic Psychiatry Residency Program (AOA accredited)

The Osteopathic Psychiatry Residency Program has been approved by the AOA for 3 positions each academic year and started on July 1, 2010. The application process will be done through the ERAS website, and applicants will be selected via the National Matching Service. ALLOPATHIC Psychiatry Residency Program (ACGME accredited)

NEW PROGRAM! This program has been recently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and will start its first academic year on July 1, 2012. We have been approved to offer 8 resident's positions per postgraduate year of training. We will accept applications through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) and the the program will participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Ambulatory, Primary Care Tracks, AOA accredited

Internal Medicine Ambulatory Track (AOA): This osteopathic 3 year training program is a primary care track based at Borinquen Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center. The program is approved by the AOA for 4 resident’s positions per year and started on July 1, 2011. This is an Ambulatory Track based at Borinquen Health Center located at 3601 Federal Highway, Miami, FL 33137. The program director is Dr. Deborah Gracia, DO, the Chief Medical Officer at Borinquen Health Center.  The application process will be done through the Osteopathic ERAS website, and applicants will be selected via the National Matching Service. Osteopathic Family Practice/NMM (AOA)
This is an osteopathic four-year training program in partnership with the Larkin/Institute for Non-Surgical Orthopedics (INSO). This program is accredited by the AOA for 3 positions per year and started on July 1, 2011. The program director is Dr. Joel Stein, D.O, a Diplomate of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice, NMM and Sport Medicine.  The application process will be done through the ERAS website, and applicants will be selected via the National Matching Service. Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research


The institution has a great commitment for Research and Faculty Development. Larkin Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research, is integrated by an outstanding and competent staff willing to develop the most interesting research projects of our residents and faculty. There is our mission to provide a correct balance to our formal quality-assurance program’s didactic method, systematic research, clinical instruction, and excellence in patient care that goes hand in hand with being a teaching hospital.
 
We also have affiliations with well-known Research Groups such as Acanthus Research, South Miami Research Institute, and other excellent multi-specialty and dedicated research facilities, which possess the proper resources for our educational experiences. They employ an experienced clinical staff to support specialization in complex, early phase clinical research in a variety of diseases, but also participate in later phase trials. The Larkin Faculty development is a strict requirement for all our medical educators and the hospital also requires documented accomplishment of Continuing Medical Education for all our healthcare practitioners.

Larkin Community Hospital is committed to the provision of quality patient care in an environment of academic pursuits. The Graduate Medical Education Committee will exercise its authority to monitor and advise on all aspects of residency education through establishing and implementing policies, annually reviewing and making recommendations on resident stipends and benefits; providing oversight of and liaison with program directors; assuring appropriate supervision for all residents, ensuring achievement of the six core competencies; reviewing accreditation letters and monitoring action plans; reviewing the institutions letter of report from residency coordinators and developing and monitoring action plans, as well as conducting the required internal reviews. The Board, the Hospital, and the GME leadership are committed to provide leadership, organizational structure, and the necessary educational, financial and human resources to guarantee the effective implementation and support of the programs in compliance with Institutional Requirements, Common Program Requirements, and Specialty Specific Program Requirements. This includes but is not limited to:
-Provide an ethical, professional, and educational environment in which the curricular requirements as well as the applicable requirements for scholarly activity and the general competencies can be met.
-Regular assessment of the quality of our programs, the performance of the residents, and the use of outcome evaluation’s results for program improvement.
-Support the governing authority, the administration, and the GME leadership.
-Operate an organized administrative system; this includes a Graduate Medical Education Committee to supervise training programs. The Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and the Director of Medical Education (DME) have the authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of accredited programs and is responsible for assuring compliance with the Institutional Requirements.
-Retain responsibility for the quality of Graduate Medical Education, including when resident education occurs in other participating sites.
-Provide all residents with an appropriate comprehensive support and benefits to ensure that they are able to fulfill the responsibilities of the educational program.

Psychiatry Education Policy Committee
Residency Education Committee
The Psychiatry Residency Education Committee will meet once monthly to consider business relating to the Psychiatry Residency Education. The members of this committee will include the Psychiatry Residency Education Director [s], Program Coordinator, Faculty Representatives from each of the major participating training sites, a resident from each respective PGY class, the Chief Resident, and the Directors of the Psychiatry Subspecialty Residency Education Programs to include Child and Adolescent, Forensics, Addictions, and Geriatrics. This committee will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating all significant features of the residency program including curricular goals and objectives and the selection of residents. This committee will also specifically evaluate the residents, the teaching faculty, and the program, and will act as an advisory body to the Director of the Program and the Department Chair.
